Jack Nisbet ~ Author & Naturalist ~ Jack’s latest book, The Dreamer and the Doctor, traces the saga of John and Carrie Leiberg across the Intermountain West and beyond. 1893, Leiberg wrangled a farm wagon across the Columbia Basin from Spokane to Stevens Pass, collecting a fascinating variety of shrub-steppe flora and observing farm and ranch life on the edge of the frontier. Join us for a slide presentation to retrace Leiberg’s journey and think about the Interior landscape, then and now.

 Ann Autrey ~ Owner, Tapteal Native Plants ~ Ann will share her knowledge and expertise in native plant propagation.  Learn about seed collection, seed treatments and how to start some of your favorite native plants.

Ernie Crediford ~ Columbia Basin Chapter Washington Native Plant Society ~ A life-long lover of the shrub steppe, Ernie Crediford spends much of his free time exploring and observing the plants and animals of the Columbia Basin.  Ernie is well-known for his wildflower photography which he will share in an inspirational slide show.

Field Day at Hansen Park's Heritage Garden

Our Spring Heritage Garden Event with be a Field Day!

Hosted by the Benton and Franklin Conservation Districts, Columbia Basin Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society and the City of Kennewick Parks and Recreation Department.

Location: Hansen Park - WEST END

Parking at 602 S. Columbia Center Blvd. or the smaller closer parking lot adjacent to the intersection of S. Georgia St. and West 6th Ave., Kennewick

10 am - 2 pm

This family friendly event will focus on learning about native and low water-use plants and how to encourage pollinators in your home gardens.

Activities Include:

  • Tour Hansen Park’s Heritage Garden with the Conservation District

  • Learn about Pollinators from Entomologist Bob Gillespie

  • Create Seed Art  and Paper Pots with Benton Franklin Master Gardeners

  • Explore Shrub Steppe Plants with the Native Plant Society

  • Kids Create Pollinator Art with Botanist Gretchen Graber

  • Learn about Wildlife from Friends of Mid-Columbia River Wildlife Refuges

Ernie Crediford, Heritage Garden Program Chair with the Columbia Basin Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society, will be presenting.  One of Ernie’s passions is his Heritage Garden. Ernie’s Heritage Garden is populated with rescued plants, seeds, and carefully tended cuttings. Ernie has created a treasure trove of beauty in his own front yard. Ernie’s depth of experience with growing native plants continues to be a great resource for those who are learning how to create their own gardens. Join Ernie to learn more about the program.

The City of Kennewick in partnership with the Benton Conservation District and the Columbia Basin Chapter of the WNPS will be planting the Hansen Park Heritage Garden on Saturday April 14th.  We are looking for volunteers to help plant the garden!  If you have them please bring a hand trowel, shovel and gardening gloves.  See you at the Park!
