Local Impact  – Drought + Water Conservation in Eastern WA


Calling all community leaders,  planners, parks departments, community boards and commissions!  Join the Benton Conservation District Heritage Garden Program and Kennewick Irrigation District for a conversation on the 2026 water forecast and water conservation strategies in Eastern WA.  Kelsey Collins from the Department of Ecology will provide an overview of water  in the Yakima Basin and how and why drought conditions arise in our region. Matthew Berglund from KID will discuss projects and strategies in the works for combating the impact of drought conditions today and into the future.  Then, Kelsey Kelmel of Benton CD will follow up with the huge role our local landscapes and land management practices can play in water conservation on the ground.  Following the speakers will be an opportunity for open, collaborative conversation on how we can foster resilience to drought, build partnerships and promote…
